Creating engaging music and movement in the ECE curriculum

Although music and movement are important parts of any ECE curriculum, many teachers lack confidence and feel ill prepared to provide meaningful music and movement opportunities for children. As a result, they often default to music and movement experiences that are delivered solely through CDs or streaming apps which runs the risk of depersonalising this aspect of the curriculum and reducing the creative expression potential it has.
This webinar has discussed key components of music and movement knowledge and skill and suggest ways that teachers of any level of previous musical ability can create meaningful and spontaneous opportunities for music and movement in the everyday curriculum. You will no longer need access to a CD player or device to foster children’s engagement in rich musical and movement expression of their ideas and feelings.

About the Webinar Presenter
Barbara Watson (PhD) PhD; MEdAdmin; BEd (ECE); Dip.Tchg (Primary)
Barbara is a qualified early childhood and primary teacher and has owned and managed early childhood centres. Having worked as part of the EC Professional Support team at the Faculty of Education for 7 years, she has strong links with The University of Auckland.
While in this role Barbara facilitated a variety of workshops and programmes for a wide range of ECE services and also lectured on a number of ECE papers.
Barbara has a passion for supporting teachers to make effective links between theory and practice. Her Masters thesis focused on leadership and adult education and her PhD investigated how induction and mentoring programmes are enacted in education and care services. Barbara works with centre leaders as a mentor, coach and external appraiser.
